High-pressure oxygen production by cryogenic air separation integrated with liquid hydrogen cold energy

Oxygen-hydrogen combustion power generation is a large-scale, highly efficient form of power generation that is expected to contribute to a decarbonized society. Oxygen-hydrogen combustion requires high-purity oxygen produced by cryogenic air separation, and there is an issue of reduced net thermal efficiency due to the amount of power consumed to compress the air in the oxygen production process. In this study, a process simulation was employed to analyze the effect of the cold energy available from the liquid hydrogen on reducing power consumption in the oxygen production process. The power reduction effects of using the cold energy of liquid hydrogen and producing high-pressure oxygen by compressing oxygen into the liquid phase were clarified.
